Designed to offer an enriching experience of academic tasks, professional work and well-being activities, this programme offers students opportunities to learn skills for life, through a traditional model of delivery with ambitious content for those not ready for mainstream education. Due to the educational isolation they may have previously experienced, the design has been crafted using tailored classroom activities which develop students personally and academically.

The course will provide a Gateway Enterprise qualification up to Level 1 through an exploration of real-life issues that prepare students for life in modern Britain.  Supported by experienced, enthusiastic and dedicated staff, students will have access to a provision which holistically breaks down their barriers to learning, develops confidence in a group work setting and enables students to access further education, employment or training.

Green and Environmental Studies

We believe that our students should have the chance to enjoy and learn more about the natural world, experiencing the joy of wildlife and wild places on a daily basis. Being in the natural world improves mental and physical wellbeing and increases the likelihood we will take care of it.

Here at Sheaf, we are surrounded by ancient woodland, and the grounds provide a safe outdoor space where we can grow, forage, discover and care for plants, encourage wildlife and explore green and environmental endeavours together.  Students studying this programme will gain knowledge and develop skills in relation to sustainability, learning about plants, greenery and the Sheaf grounds. They can even research various plants and find out how they are used for medicines and healing.

Students can also gain a recognised foundation qualification which will develop their employability and life skills and could lead to supported employment activities or internal progression onto another programme.
