Construction skills people

I moved to the UK from Jamaica in 2011. I had some experience in general labouring, but when I arrived in the UK, I chose to work in the care sector instead, supporting vulnerable adults. This year, I decided to make a change and develop my skills in construction.

My biggest challenge has been my struggle with maths. This made it hard for me to apply for jobs in construction, as I lacked confidence in my abilities.

Over the past two weeks, my confidence has grown significantly. I now feel sure that construction is the right career for me, and I’m excited about my future in the industry.

I highly recommend the Introduction to Construction course. It has been very useful, and the tutor, Paula, gave me excellent support. Thanks to her help, I passed my health and safety training and feel well-prepared for my CSCS test. The course also helped me explore future career opportunities, giving me a clear path forward.

The learning environment was comfortable, and I felt free to be myself while improving my skills.

I’m planning to start the Groundworks course with Construction Skills People at the end of March. The introductory course has given me the enthusiasm and confirmation that construction is the right career for me.

This experience has boosted my confidence and opened new doors for my future. I’m looking forward to progressing in the construction industry
